I love reading about the exciting travel adventures of brave bloggers who travel solo. Although, I travel solo for work conferences and meetings. I’m just not ready to have a solo travel experience where I have to explore a new or foreign place on my own. So, instead of a solo adventure, I tested the water with a “solo-ish” staycation. We will talk about the “solo-ish” part in a future blog post. I chose the Westin Fort Lauderdale for my staycation. And it did not disappoint!
The Westin Fort Lauderdale is conveniently located right off of I-95 and centrally located in Fort Lauderdale. The hotel is only 3.5 miles from Fort Lauderdale beach and about a 20-minute drive from hot spots like Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Las Olas Boulevard. This location offers guest perks including free parking, complimentary Wi-Fi, and 24-hour room service.
Tranquil Hotel Suite:
Staying true to the reputation of the Westin chain, the Westin Fort Lauderdale has beautiful hotel suites. This location has newly renovated guest rooms and the décor is modern, serene and very zen. Let me tell you about the bed! The hotel suites feature the Westin Heavenly Bed and this bed felt like a floating cloud. The mattress and the comforter were ultra plush. The hotel room is well designed, thus creating a spacious and efficient room. I may or may not have had seven people in my room for a few hours hanging out. If a Westin employee read this, I did not! My hotel suite also included a hideaway mini frig.
The Westin’s pool area is located in the back of the hotel. And it’s both beautiful and quiet. At least on the day, I was there. I would even go as far as to say it’s relaxing if it wasn’t for the tourist stalking the resident iguanas. The green fella likes to hang out in the bushes near the heated Jacuzzi. As a native Floridian, I politely explain to the tourist that it wasn’t a good idea to try to touch him. Once that excitement died down I set by the pool reading a book and honestly, it felt like I was 1000 miles away from home.
I enjoyed lunch at the Alfiere’s Mediterranean Bistro (the on-site restaurant). I ordered the Quinoa Crusted Chicken Breast and it was delicious. The entrée is served with a medley of root vegetables. It was my first time trying yuca and I’m now addicted. I get some every time I see it on the Whole Foods buffet selection.
The Westin also has a lounge in the lobby if you would like a more casual dining experience or just want to enjoy a cocktail and people watch. The Westin Fort Lauderdale is quite a large and active hotel. So there are lots of people to watch from the lounge. I saw two different wedding parties during my stay and large professional meeting.
With all the hustle and bustle of the main floor, I was surprized how quite my floor was. I slept peacefully through the night and I’m a light sleeper. I would recommend that if you do not stay on the second floor if you’re a light sleeper. The staff at the Westin was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has bellman to help with your luggage and the front desk was super polite when I asked for an additional room key because I had locked myself out of my room.
I enjoyed this solo staycation so much I’m already planning my next one! Have you ever had a solo staycation? Comment below.
